What is a Young Adult?
A 'Young Adult' is defined by the Archdiocese of Chicago as anyone in their twenties and thirties, married or single, kids or no-kids. This age bracket is a transitional time of life that merits extra-ordinary opportunities to explore one's faith in the context of an evolving and professional lifestyle.

The History Behind Faros
The word faros in various Greek dialects refers to a beacon of light or torch. In proper form, it more specifically refers to the prominent ligthouse tower of Alexandria, Egypt. Constructed sometime around 285 BC and later witnessed by St. Mark hundreds of years later, it is regarded as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

Now that you know what the word means, you can guess some of the obvious reasons we chose it: We aim to guide one another in faith. We hope to signal our presense to other young adults who seek an inlet to their spiritual life. We want to contrast some of the fears and uncertainties we all encounter in our day-to-day faith - and highlight the important details to help stay the course. We want to give ourselves something tangible to identify the presense of 20 & 30 somethings in each of our parish communities. To sum it up, we felt a need for a landmark ministry geared to the Catholic Young Adults in Arlington Heights. The image of a lighthouse is grand, understandable, and seemed to fit the bill.

Leadership
The Faros Young Adult Ministry is lead by a ministry committee, who is responsible for organizing volunteer opportunities, service, and outings.
